Photo Blog 016 – Australia Day Classic Car Show

IMG_0346

Today is Australia Day, the countries national holiday to celebrate the anniversary of colonisation by captain cook and his folk 200 and something years ago.

There’s always a tonne of stuff going on around Sydney but the highlight for me is the classic car show in the streets between Hyde Park and the Domain.

It was an interesting challenge shooting the array of classic motors, with the crowds and a high sun in a coudless sky topping the bill.

There’s a saying that I’ve heard many times on photography podcasts that refers to composition in a number of shooting situations and that is “When you think you are close enough, take two steps closer”. I found this really helpful in making some creative compositions and it had the added bonus of eliminating the hordes of enthusiastic motor fans from my frame.

The reflections that these highly polished vehicles gave was a challenge and I used a polariser to manage them the best I could. When I couldn’t eliminate them I tried to use them creatively, as below.
