I received some great news this week – my Emu photo came 6th place in a competition being run by my employer, Australian Telco Optus! In partnership with the Australian Wildlife Conservancy (www.australianwildlife.org) Optus offered employees the chance to enter up to three photo’s each of native Aussie wildlife into a competition where the top 24 photos would be chosen by a panel and then out of that, votes were to be placed by the whole company’s staff to make it into the top 12 for a place in next years Optus calendar.
Out of over 500 photo’s submitted I had 2 chosen for the top 24, and my Emu made it into the calendar having been voted in 6th place. There were some great material prizes (including a 24 inch canvas of my print!) but the best prize was to make it into the calendar. It’s great for me personally to have a photo of mine up on thousands of peoples walls across the country for a whole month next year, but also to know that the picture is helping raise money for the AWC whose mission statement begins… “The mission of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy is the effective conservation of all Australian animal species and the habitats in which they live.”. All profits from the sale of the calendar are to be donated to the AWC so it’s great to know that my photograph is helping in at least some small way.
Anyway, here’s the little guy who made it in!
